The
majority of my clients are adults, but I have worked also with children
and with young women suffering from an eating disorder.
At the first consultation we discuss your health, past and
present, and the factors that may influence it. I explain the
possible links between nutrition and your symptoms, and together we
decide on a plan of action. This usually includes dietary changes, or
diet experiments, and appropriate nutritional supplementation.
Practical matters are also explored, so that you can easily
implement the recommendations regarding for example which foods to buy,
how to prepare them, or how to combine them.
During the weeks following your appointment you will be
putting all
this into practice, and observing the changes in your health and
energy.
| In order to assess progress and
adapt the
programme, it is helpful to have follow-up consultations. The interval
may be a month or 6 weeks, and the number of sessions depends on your
wish and need. |

- If there is a doubt about the cause of your problems, I can
refer
you for some tests, at a lab specialising in nutrition and areas of
health related to nutrition. Some tests can be done by sending a sample
through the post (for example hair or saliva), occasionally it is
necessary for you to attend a lab in Central London.
- If you need help in purchasing your recommended
supplements, I can arrange for these to be sent directly to your home.

I
studied nutrition at the Institute for Optimum Nutrition from 1996 to
99, when I graduated as a Nutritional Therapist. Subsequently I worked
for two years as an associate to nutritionist Erica White at
Nutritionhelp, advising candida and chronic fatigue sufferers. In
2001-02 I worked with Parkinson's disease patients at the London Pain
Relief and Nutritional Support Clinic, under the direction of
nutritionist Lucille Leader and Dr Geoffrey Leader.
My practice in South London has been established since 1999.
I am a member of the British Association for Nutritional
therapy (BANT) and I attend regular nutrition conferences to keep my
knowledge up to date and learn from colleagues in my field.
In the past year I have given nutrition workshops for the charity
Breast Cancer Care.
Previous to my career as a nutritionist, I worked for many
years as
a music teacher. This experience influences my work and I feel that my
work is very close to that of a teacher. My aim is to empower my
clients to take their healing into their own hands, so that after a few
sessions, they won’t need my help anymore.

How do I know if my diet provides the right nutrients?
A
lack of certain vitamins, minerals or essential fats, can manifest as
low energy, low resistance to infections, poor health of skin and hair,
hormonal imbalances, depression, hyperactivity, and many symptoms of
stress or mental fatigue.
Most of us eat too many processed foods, often due to a lack
of time
to shop and cook. With better awareness, it is possible to find a few
changes we can make to improve our diet.
Can diet help my digestive problems?
Digestive
disturbances can result from a poor diet, excessive stress, harmful
microbes in the intestinal tract, or a lack of the beneficial bacteria.
These problems in turn may cause food intolerances. Avoiding these
foods for some time, improving diet and restoring the gut flora are
three ways in which nutritional therapy can help.
Will I need to go on a ‘Detox’?
If your liver is
struggling, this may manifest as headaches, fatigue, depression,
nausea, dizziness, blood sugar problems, premenstrual syndrome, or
chemical sensitivities. A ‘Detox’ effect will take place naturally as
you follow your nutritional programme. Improving your diet will help
reduce exposure to toxins and help support your liver. It also helps to
keep your blood sugar steady and your hormones in balance.
Can nutritional therapy be used alongside medical
treatment?
If
you suffer from a medical condition, good nutrition can help to build
your body’s natural strength and resistance. I will establish contact
with your GP in order to work safely alongside your medical treatment.
How long will it take to work?
This depends on
your health problems. Sometimes I see very quick transformations. For
example a lady consulted me with severe eczema on her hands. Despite
long-term treatment with steroid cream, the condition had not improved.
Within a couple of weeks on a gluten and dairy-free diet, the eczema
had cleared!
If you have had long-term problems, it can take time to see
the full
benefit of nutritional therapy. However within a week or two most of my
clients experience sufficient improvement to know that they are on the
right track.
A look into the future
In
a sense nutritional therapy does not ‘end’ because you will be changed
by the experience. Once you have learned to enjoy the foods that make
you well, a good diet becomes part of everyday life. You don’t even
think of going back to the sort of diet that made you unwell in the
past. Although in the case of food intolerance, it is sometimes
possible to reintroduce a food, once the underlying cause has been
addressed.
